Why We Are Here

This flyer created by Mark Rodgers, the founder of Unfucked and member of Inject, was not a traditional event flyer. Instead, it served as a thought-provoking piece meant to inspire independent thinking within the punk community. Rather than simply promoting a show, the flyer conveyed a deeper message, challenging its readers to reflect on the values of the underground scene and the importance of self-expression, activism, and community care. The flyer used its design and message to encourage individuals to think critically and engage with the punk ethos beyond just the music, making it a statement of the scene's broader ideals.

“Do you know where your money is? What’s being done in your name?’ - Thorns

So you paid your $3 or $1 with food item donation and you’re prepared to see the multitude of bands (its going to be a long one…) amd I’m sure that after the show most will talk of how great the show was (premeditated hopes) and of the fun they had whilst on the way home. But if you get a chance, take a look at the donation taker(s). Perhaps even question where it is the money is going. As it is no longer your money. It now belongs to people in South Central Los Angeles. It belongs to those who need it far more than we do. We are here for them. We are here for a reason. Music serves as a common ground for all of us to be here, but the root of the meaning I hope extends deeper than music. Just think we are helping people whom we do know, nor do they know who we are… our music is affecting people in a way we may never know. But none of it is worth anything if not for your participation, involvement, curiosity, compassion and desire to make a difference. No matter who you are, you can touch someone's life. Think about why you are here. If the music is primary and cause secondary then perhaps your heart is upside down. Oh well, have fun, be nice, and give!

‘Insecure middle class white kids searching sounds like a joke, but I guess everything has its purpose’ - Heroin

‘Somewhere in the cycle there's me and you, what are we prepared to do?’ - Chumbawamba

If our music makes you happy but content then it has failed. If our music entertains but doesn’t inspire then it has failed. The music is not a threat. Action that music inspires can be a threat.”
